Mobil Pyrotec HFD 46 is a high performance flame retardant hydraulic fluid. It is designed for use in electro-hydraulic control systems for steam turbines, including systems where high-precision servo valves are used. Recommended as a flame retardant lubricant for use in steam and gas turbines, as well as in hydraulic systems. Mobile Pyrotec HFD 46 is approved by Factory Mutual Insurance Company, according to Test 1.

Mobil Pyrotec HFD 46 is highly oxidation resistant. The main operational properties, such as foaming, air separation and demulsibility fully comply with the requirements regulated by turbine manufacturers.

The fire resistance of Mobil Pyrotec HFD 46 fluid was evaluated in the most stringent tests. Ignition can occur when exposed to open flames when the volumetric temperature of the heating fluid reaches 368ºC. At the same time, in tests for sprayed-fire ignition in a hot collector (Factory Mutual standard 6930 AMS 3150C), flash and combustion do not occur at a temperature of 704ºC.

Scope of application

Mobil Pyrotec HFD 46 is recommended for use in:

• Electro-hydraulic control systems for steam turbines, especially where high-performance fluid is required
• Нydraulic and circulating systems operating in fire hazardous conditions

Mobil Pyrotec HFD 46 should not be used in:

• Нydraulic systems operating at low temperatures. Established operating temperatures should be up to 65ºC to minimize thermal degradation. Nevertheless, operation is allowed at oil temperatures up to 150ºC.
• Contact with polymeric materials such as neoprene, nitrile and silicone rubbers due to incompatibilities. Mobil Pyrotec HFD 46 is also compatible with seal and hose materials such as butyl rubber and Viton.
• Рossible mixing with oil-based oils, various types of soluble emulsions, water-in-oil emulsions and water-glycol liquids. ExxonMobil is ready to provide system flushing recommendations upon request.
• Сontact with most types of coatings (except for composite epoxy materials), enamels and varnishes. Considering the solvent properties of Mobil Pyrotec HFD 46, it is necessary to consider the preliminary preparation of all internal work surfaces that may come into contact with a fire-resistant liquid during operation.
