Mobil THERM 605 (Code: )

Mobiltherm heat transfer oils are high performance products for use in closed indirect heating installations. They are recommended for use in systems with cold oil gates, indirect heating and cooling, and in various technological processes.

Mobiltherm coolant oils are made from high quality base oils that are resistant to thermal decomposition and chemical oxidation. They have high thermal stability and are intended for extremely long operation without the formation of deposits or increase of viscosity.

Mobiltherm heat transfer oils are characterized by high heat transfer efficiency and their viscosity is such that they can be easily pumped at both starting and operating temperatures. They have a high heat capacity and thermal conductivity, which accelerate heat removal. The flash point values of these oils do not decrease even during long-term operation due to their resistance to thermal decomposition at the operating heating temperatures for which they are recommended.

 Advantages

  • Absence of sludge and coke deposits and minimal influence on heat transfer parameters. Easy maintenance;
  • High speed of heat transfer and high efficiency of operation at the lowered expenses;
  • Long uninterrupted operation and reduced downtime;
  • Easy starting of cold systems.

Scope of application

Recommendations for use: Mobiltherm heat transfer oils should not be mixed with other oils as this may impair high thermal stability and oxidation resistance, which causes changes in other properties. Mixing can also complicate the analyzes performed to monitor the condition of the oil being used and maximize its life. If the oils are used at temperatures above the recommended maximum values, a steam seal may occur unless the system is designed to operate at a higher temperature under the pressure of an inert gas such as nitrogen. At higher temperatures, the life of the coolant decreases due to a significant increase in the rate of thermal destruction as the temperature rises above the recommended limit. In properly designed systems, the temperature of the oil film surrounding the heating element should not be higher than the volumetric temperature of the oil by more than 15-30 ° C. At higher temperatures, the life of the oil may be reduced and sludge and coke deposits may form, which will adversely affect the heat transfer conditions.

Like other mineral oils, Mobiltherm coolant oils should only be used in forced circulation systems. Convective heat transfer conditions do not provide a sufficiently high fluid flow rate to prevent local overheating and rapid decomposition of the oil. Moreover, these oils are not recommended for use in open systems in which hot oil comes in direct contact with air. Mobiltherm hot oil may be spontaneously ignited if sprayed or leaked.
